The Suwannee River Valley Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) was chartered on 23 May 1990. There were 22 charter members, representing the four major military services. The Chapter today comprises 28 members. A monthly dinner meeting, with a guest speaker, is held on the fourth Thursday of each month (except July and August). The Chapter is centered in Lake City, Florida, and encourages MOAA members from the surrounding counties to join the Chapter for fellowship and camaraderie. The Chapter actively supports the Lake City Veterans Administration Hospital, as well as the Florida Veterans Domiciliary in Lake City. Volunteer activities include offering coffee and doughnuts at the VA, providing reading material and personal care items at the domiciliary, and presenting awards at nearby JROTC functions.
