Who We Are!
From its inception, April 30, 1993, the chapter
has enjoyed steady growth. This has been the product of sound leadership and
the dedication of enthusiastic members looking to grow our chapter.
The chapter hosts two monthly social functions, a dinner
featuring a speaker or entertainment and an informal Officer's Call gathering. Dinner
meetings are normally the fourth Tuesday or Thursday of the month at the location
to be announced in the monthly newsletter. Cocktails at 6, dinner at 7. For
men, ties are not necessary though jackets are expected. Officer's
Call—informal gathering—is normally the second Wednesday of the month at the location to be announced
by e-mail.
The chapter supports the Junior ROTC program,
raises money for scholarships, provides volunteers at the Veterans
Hospital, and attempts to be responsive to numerous projects within the
community. In addition, it actively supports the Wounded Veterans of South Florida.
MOAA’s monthly magazine keeps members informed on
national issues of concern to all military officers, while
a monthly chapter newsletter ties members together by providing social
announcements, reports of chapter programs and news of MOAA and chapter activities.
The MOAA chapter members are more than just
members. They successfully influence state and local governments.
They provide valuable information to other MOAA members and military personnel.
They recognize outstanding young people and help others in time of
need. And while doing so, they develop
close and lasting friendships with other members with similar backgrounds and
interest. It is a totally independent, non-profit, politically non-partisan
organization.
When you become a chapter member, you will
be able to tap into local programs that make a difference. With
over 380,000 members from every branch of service (141 members in our local
chapter), MOAA is a powerful force for speaking for a strong national
defense and representing the interests of military officers at every stage of their careers.
Membership is open to all active duty,
retired, former, and reserved commissioned officers and warrant officers of the
Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, Public Health
Services, and National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration.
Auxiliary memberships are also encouraged for surviving spouses of deceased
officers.
MOAA’s highest priority is providing first-class service
to its members. We are the leading voice on compensation and benefit matters for members of the military community.
