Annual JROTC Scholarship Luncheon

The annual JROTC "Bud Wise" Scholarship Luncheon awards a $1000 and a $500 scholarship award to two senior JROTC cadets.  Applicants for the scholarship are required to complete an application answering various questions and are interviewed by a selection committee of MOAA Citrus County Chapter members.  The selection committee then chooses an award winner and an award runner up. 

Event Dress:  Business Casual 

Event Reservations Are Required and Are Binding (Meals and Costs are pre-ordered) 

Event Cost is $25.00  This charge includes paying for the meals of the scholarship awardees, the awardees' parents, the awardees'  JROTC instructor and a donation to the "Bud Wise" JROTC Scholarship Fund.



The JROTC scholarship luncheon takes place on Thursday, May 13th, 2021 at the Citrus Hill Golf and Country Club in the Garden Room.  The event begins at 11:30-1200 noon for check in, meeting the award recipients and member fellowship.  Between 12 Noon-1:30PM the formal part of the luncheon begins with a Call to Order, the Pledge of Allegiance, Invocation, Lunch Served, Scholarship Presentations and the featured Speaker presentation.

11:30AM-12 Noon: Check in and payment, meet and greet with scholarship winners and membership fellowship.
12 Noon-12:40 PM: Lunch 
12:40 PM to 1PM: Scholarship Award Ceremony
1:00 PM to1:25 PM: Speaker Presentation
1:25 PM-1:30 PM: Event Closing

About our Speaker


Thomas Kennedy, Citrus County School Board

Bio for Thomas Kennedy, Citrus County School Board:

Mr. Kennedy
relocated to Citrus County, Florida in 1989 from Stoneham, Massachusetts. While
volunteering at Crystal River Middle School in 1990, he met his wife who had
just begun teaching at CRMS and they later married in 1992. They both live in
the Central Ridge area of Citrus County and have two children. Mr. Kennedy has
served on numerous committees while on the school board and currently
represents the school board on the Educational Technology Council, District
Technology Advisory Council/Technology Standards Sub-Committee, Exceptional
Student Education, Pupil Progression Plan for High Schools, High Schools
Directions, and several school & program advisory councils.  In 2018, Mr. Kennedy was awarded the STAR
Florida’s School Board Member of the Year by the Consortium of Florida
Education Foundations. The STAR Award is one of the only statewide awards given
annually to one Florida School Board Member. He is currently the Vice-President
of the Florida School Board Association which represents most of Florida’s 358
school board members. He currently chairs FSBA’s Policy Committee and has
chaired FSBA’s Leadership Services Committee and Advocacy Subcommittee. He is a
Florida Certified Board Member since 2014. Recently, Mr. Kennedy has served as
an appointee to FSBA’s Ad Hoc Committee to develop FSBA Pandemic Response Guide
in June 2020.  Before serving with the
Citrus County School Board, he spent over 20 years in the construction and
development business. In addition to his school service, Mr. Kennedy works with
youth in the community as a certified USA Swimming Coach, coaching swimming for
local schools and swim clubs. He has also worked with youth ministries at his
church.
