The Halifax Chapter of The Retired Officers Association was organized by a group of retired members from the various services. It was organized to serve the Eastern portion of Volusia County.
Chapter membership is open to those who are or have been commissioned or warrant officers of the seven uniformed services and the reserve and National Guard components of these services. The widow(er) of any deceased who would, if living be eligible for membership are eligible for Auxiliary membership. Persons interested in joining the Chapter are invited to contact President Fowler. As of January 1999 the Chapter had a membership roster of 188.
The Board of Directors meets at the Daytona Beach Public Library, City Island, on the first Tuesday of each month, September through May, at 10:00 AM. Meetings are open to all interested persons.
Regular monthly meetings of the membership are held on the fourth Thursday of each month, September through May, except the November meeting is held the 3rd Thursday. A social hour opens at 11:00 AM with luncheon served at 12:00 PM. The meetings are held at the Halifax River Yacht Club, 331 S. Beach Street, Daytona Beach, FL. Reservations are required and may be made with the Secretary/Treasurer. After the luncheon, a speaker or other program of interest to the membership is presented. The meeting usually adjourns at about 1:30 PM.
The Chapter actively participates in the community by means of the membership participation in charitable and volunteer organizations. The Chapter sponsors scholarship awards to the outstanding cadet of both the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force ROTC units at Embry Riddle Air University.
Awards are made twice yearly at the end of the Fall and Spring Semesters. In addition, MOAA ROTC medals are awarded at the Junior ROTC programs in the various local schools.
